Another year, another round of interesting projects. After assessments for the first semester were all set and done, A new group of topics came flying through for us to complete. These projects consisted of 2 two week long projects within one module and a large project spamming across 2 modules. This project was the first of the 2 two week projects that allowed me to stay within my 3D creative process but explore experimentation with other materials and practises such as textiles.
idea Generation
When given the brief on the 4R’s, I decided to dissect the 4R’s into their own component to see which one would be the easiest to tackle and use for my project. After working through what possible outcomes could come from each R, I finally decided to combine both Repair and Resurrection to use as the main construct for how my work would be carried out throughout the project.

Idea Development
After figuring out what R’s I would be using to start my project, I decided to roughly design 3 different pathways of where I could see the project itself going as well as a mind map of what practical uses my project can possess if made successfully such as therapeutic and brain development uses.

Shape/Form Experimentation
Once all the setup and sketches for how I wanted to go about and start the project, I began experimenting with different fabrics and materials to create strange but intriguing objects that have different textures when comparing the insides to their outsides. This experimentation process allowed me to consider the use of textiles and various textures to bring together a new method of creation when it comes to my work.
Further Material Experimentation
Upon discovering this technique of combining various materials together, I continued to develop this further by creating various shapes and textures to see how bizarre and crazy I could make them feel as themselves and to hold. This led to ideas of combining the objects in some form of way so that instead of being objects on their own, they can all be a combined texture based experience.
Visual Studies
As a part of our visual studies for this project, we were given the task of taking A2 sheets of messy used paper created from previous students and completely change them so that they look nothing like how they looked originally. I decided to take the challenge of transforming 3 A2 sheets into different forms. One I folded until I couldn’t fold any more, I then took another cut it into different segments so each piece of paper would look different. For the final piece of paper, I cut it into long thin strips and converted them into paper springs which were then wrapped in fabric and turned into one of my textured objects.
Main Idea Construction – Therapy Doll
By the end of this project, I found myself combining my objects into what I like to call a therapeutic hugging doll which wraps itself around your person and allows itself to be peaceful while also looking dapper at the same time.
Secondary Idea Construction – Therapy Animals
I also took it upon myself to create small animal dolls as a way to branch away from the objects and make something more knowledgeable and appealing with use of bright colours and recognisable animals. With the combined elements of soft texture and vibrant colours, these dolls can be used for uses of therapy as well as used as toys for children in regards to learning and brain development
