Process – Textiles

When going into the second round of the carousel, things were getting intense. Not only was the whole “One Week Project” thing still active but there was also the added element of contextual understanding. This meant extensive writing exercises that wanted 500 words per process segment of the carousel. Now at the beginning I thought this written element was going to be a challenge but when it came down to it, the whole thing was a piece of cake.

Runic Drawing

At the beginning of this segment, we were given the task to do timed writing which involved writing about objects of significance and how they made us feel. We were then told that these words would be used to create a piece of work in a textile format. Now previously to this task, I was working with runic symbols as a past time where I made up my own symbols based on small hand movements to help cope with stress. This gave me inspiration to instead use symbols rather than words when creating my work and that concept is what I did for the whole of this process segment. My process during this segment was to utilise the significance of colour so it gave more emphasis to the patches themselves as well as the fact every runic symbol used is unique and never duplicate across all 5 pieces.
